IP
Also known as: internet protocol
|
Internet Protocol is the underlying protocol of the Internet. Other, more specific protocols like HTTP and FTP rely on IP as a basis. IP is responsible for addressing all the computers and networks on the Internet. All computers on the Internet have an IP address, which allow computers across the world to find one another. An example of an IP address is: 72.14.207.99 (google.com). You can type IP addresses directly into your web browser instead of domain names, but obviously they are much harder to remember.
