bandwidth
Also known as: B/W
|
Bandwidth is a measure of how much data is able to flow over a connection and at what speed. For a non-technical example, if at maximum capacity, an average of 10 cars get processed through a US-Canada border crossing each minute, then the bandwidth of that border crossing is 10 cars per minute. On the Internet, bandwidth is typically measured in Kbps (Kilobytes per second). A 56K modem supports bandwidth up to 56 Kbps. High-speed Internet can be several times faster.
