Open source refers to software for which the source code is published free to be viewed by anyone, usually on the Internet. Open source software is not necessarily free to use, but it often is free for many uses. The advantage of open source software is that many programmers are able to view the code to find and fix glitches and security holes, and contribute their creativity, rather than just one or a few.
